Melly Stoddard, age 10, has good reason to smile after this week. Stoddard has been waiting for a heart transplant for almost a year. Doctors were astonished that she's managed to live as long as she has. Parents Pearl and Percy Stoddard, were told not to expect any miracles. Suitable donor hearts were often difficult to locate. Family and friends of the family rallied around and helped raise the money needed to take Melly to The Toronto Sick Children's Hospital for further tests and treatment. Melly received her new heart yesterday, but she's not expected back in Saskatchewan for another few weeks. |
